Paulo Fonseca made it clear that he was not happy after the Red Star game, and it will lead to some major changes to the line-up.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) write how after the Champions League victory against Red Star, the Portuguese coach vented his anger at the team that was unable to maintain an attitude that was up to par.

The coach had warned that he would be ready to field the Milan Futuro boys if necessary and tonight, against Genoa, that’s exactly what will happen.

Retracing steps

The paper looks back at the various stages of this week. First the victory in Europe, which was fundamental, then the immediate outburst to which yesterday Fonseca tried to give an explanation for in his press conference.

The coach underlined how his words were directed above all towards an attitude that was not appropriate to the situation. The players in the eye of the storm were not directly named but it seems clear to everyone who the recipients of his messages were.

Fonseca reiterated how after the Champions League match he had the opportunity to speak privately with some individuals. The benching of both Theo Hernandez and the captain Davide Calabria is a big indication.

Towards the Futuro

Fonseca moves from words to actions, as highlighted by CorSera this morning, and decides to send a couple of Milan Futuro boys onto the pitch from the start.

In place of Theo Hernandez it will be the young Spanish full-back Alex Jimenez. At the start of the season he was labelled by Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the deputy Theo but to date he has not yet played a minute with the first team this season, while in Serie C he looks too good for the level.

A little further upfield, the absences of Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Yunus Musah mean the coach’s choice will fall on Mattia Liberali who in the summer had been the protagonist of a great pre-season.
