As the summer transfer window drew to a close, Paris Saint-Germain made a last-minute effort to bolster its defense. Moreover, the capital club will continue to attempt to improve its backline heading into 2025.
In August, L’Équipe’s Loïc Tanzi reported that PSG offered Tomás Araújo a €5 million annual contract, though they needed to sell a center back first before moving ahead.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano added that Chelsea was also eyeing Araújo as a potential signing if they parted ways with a defender in the final days of the window. Although Chelsea hadn’t submitted a formal bid, they saw Araújo as a promising option.
Both clubs showed interest in the 22-year-old, but Benfica had no intention of letting him go. According to Romano, the Portuguese club ultimately chose to keep Araújo, especially after already selling multiple players over the summer.

Portuguese outlet Record reports that PSG are closely monitoring Araújo for a future transfer. However, the operation appears challenging, as Benfica are unwilling to negotiate for the player.
The Lisbon club has set his release clause at €100 million, leaving PSG with an all-or-nothing option. This latest report comes after O Jogo reported that Chelsea, Newcastle United, and Crystal Palace are among several clubs interested in the player.
