Unfortunate news for BVB fans this Wednesday, as the club announced that Daniel Svensson had suffered a medial knee ligament injury during the UCL first-leg matchup against LOSC Lille. With that injury, the Swedish left-back will likely be unavailable for selection until after the international break.

This news comes as a shock to fans, as the Swede has had a significant role on the team since joining during this winter transfer window. He was signed on loan from the Danish side Nordsjælland until the end of the current season with a buy-option at the end of it. The young lad has impressed since joining the Black-and-Yellows, especially with Ramy Bensebaini's injury right after the transfer window closed.

For instance, Svensson had a decisive role in Dortmund's 3-nil win against Sporting in the Champions League playoff round, which paved the way for BVB to reach the Round of 16. Even at only 23 years old, the prodigy covered Bensebaini's absences like a true veteran, finding consistency in the offensive and defensive side of his left-back role. Thankfully, Bensebaini is fit once again, underscoring the importance of having two left backs.

As Niko Kovač looks to be fond of Svensson, there is a good possibility that Borussia Dortmund will make his move to the Signal Iduna Park permanent at the end of the season. However, this injury could be bad news for Svensson in terms of Dortmund triggering his buy clause, but only time will tell how he recovers and rejoins the team following the international break.
