Italy and Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero says it’s a ‘pity’ that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s goal against Liverpool was disallowed for a marginal offside: ‘It makes me laugh.’

The former Napoli ace thought he had broken the deadlock at the Parc des Princes when he found the net with a fantastic curler last night, but his goal was ruled offside by inches, leaving Del Piero unimpressed.

“It’s a pity; it makes me laugh. It’s incredible to me that such a marginal decision gets whistled,” the former striker told Sky Sport Italia.

“The goal was stunning. He managed to control the ball perfectly, just enough to create space for the shot. He already knew exactly where the goal was and had the perfect timing to get ahead of his opponent. It’s a real pity because it was a beautiful goal.”

Kvara’s goal was even more remarkable in Del Piero’s eyes as curlers at the far post are widely recognized as Del Piero’s trademark goals.

PSG-Liverpool was officiated by Italian referee Davide Massa, who left the home side unhappy when ignoring their penalty appeals for an Ibrahima Konaté push on Bradley Barcola in the first half.

Liverpool eventually secured a 1-0 win thanks to a late Harvey Elliott goal for which French pundits blamed Gigio Donnarumma. On the other hand, Italian newspapers defended the Azzurri captain, saying that he was not at fault for Liverpool’s late goal.
