Borussia Dortmund took another important step towards European qualification with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday.

The result lifted the Black and Yellows to sixth place - enough for European football - but their sights are firmly set higher.

Just three points separate them from Freiburg in fourth place, the final spot granting access to the Champions League.

“Of course we believe in it! That’s our goal now,” captain Emre Can told Sky after Saturday's win.

“We have some catching up to do - we've messed up quite a bit this season and dropped a lot of points. Next week we want to keep going and pick up more points. We need every single point, and hopefully we’ll be playing Champions League football again next year.”

BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl echoed that ambition, expressing hope that the injury-time winner against Hoffenheim will further add to the team’s confidence and motivation heading into the final three games of the season.

“We needed this win today, and we got the three points - that’s what matters. To win the game in that kind of way has to give us strength for the coming weeks. We have to keep believing, and then we can still make it,” he said.
