Real Madrid’s injury problems have gone from bad to worse. As reported by MARCA, both Ferland Mendy and David Alaba will undergo surgery today, officially ruling them out for the rest of the season.

It is another massive blow for Carlo Ancelotti, who is already struggling with a thin squad and limited defensive options.

In recent weeks, the medical team has been keeping a close eye on both players, but the decision has now been made to proceed with operations.

The outlet suggests that Mendy and Alaba will meet with surgeons today in an effort to fix the issues that have kept them sidelined. Sadly for both players, their season has come to an early end.

Mendy’s muscle woes continue

It is said that Mendy’s case has been especially troubling. The French full-back collapsed just minutes into the recent clash against Barcelona and could not continue.

Sadly, this was not an isolated incident as the Frenchman has suffered a string of muscle-related injuries all season, preventing him from performing at his usual level.

This time, he has torn the proximal rectus femoris tendon in his right quadriceps. As a result, he is now set to have surgery and won’t be expected back until the 2025–26 season. It’s a tough situation for both the player and the club.

Alaba faces meniscus operation

Alaba, meanwhile, will also go under the knife to address a separate issue. The Austrian defender had already suffered a serious anterior cruciate ligament injury in December 2023, but now his left knee’s meniscus is also damaged.

The recent setback means he will miss the rest of the season as well and is expected to return only next campaign.

With both key defenders out long-term, Real Madrid’s injury crisis continues to grow at the worst possible time.
