Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams has been described as a “dream” target for Chelsea according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Blues are set for another busy summer and could look to sell as many a seven or eight players in order to fund their business.

Chelsea face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to improve Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Williams “dream” Chelsea target

Chelsea have signed a number of wide players over the past few windows, but with Noni Madueke linked with a move away, and the Blues unsure if they will make Jadon Sancho’s loan permanent there’s expected to be plenty of movement.

Estevao Willian arrives this summer with Geovany Quenda arriving in 2026, whilst it’s unclear if or when Mykhailo Mudyrk will play for the club again following a positive doping test.

Williams is attracting interest from the Premier League.

Maresca is said to want five wingers in his squad and the Blues have been linked with the Jamie Gittens, Morgan Rogers and Williams.

Romano has now provided an update on Chelsea’s search for a new winger and who their “dream target would be.

He wrote in his Give Me Sport column:

“Chelsea are surely looking for a new winger to bring in soon and Rogers is one of the players they appreciate, perfect in terms of age and skills.

“He’s considered similar to Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens who’s high on the list along with dream target Nico Williams, but the price tag could be an issue for Rogers.”

Chelsea face stumbling block with wages

Chelsea were linked with Williams last summer after the 22-year-old shone for Spain as they won Euro 2024 and the Blues are said to be one of four clubs in the race.

The winger has a release clause of £48m in his contract making him affordable, however the issue is his wages, with it being reported his representatives are demanding more than £400,000 per week if he leaves Athletic Bilbao this summer.

It’s said Chelsea would be prepared to break their wage structure for the right player, but it would be a surprise if they did it to that extent and for Williams.
