Drogba sends Mourinho message of support amid racism row | OneFootball

Didier Drogba has sent a message of support to Jose Mourinho following the racism row between the 62-year-old and Galatasaray.

Galatasaray have revealed they plan to “initiate criminal proceedings” against Fenerbahce manager Mourinho after claiming he made “racist statements” following the goalless draw between the teams in the Istanbul derby.

Speaking at his news conference after clash between the Turkish Süper Lig rivals, Mourinho said the Galatasaray bench had been “jumping like monkeys”.

He also repeated his criticism of Turkish referees, saying it would have been a “disaster” to use an official from the country.

Drogba, who scored 20 goals in 53 appearances for Galatasaray, has now offered his view on the matter and has spoken out in support of Mourinho.

The Ivorian worked with Mourinho across two spells at Chelsea and refuted suggestions Mourinho can be considered a racist. He referred to the Portuguese coach as ‘my dad’ and called on his former club to forget the incident and concentrate on title success.

“Dear Galatasaray… You know how proud I was to wear the yellow and red jersey, also my love for the most decorated club in Turkey.

“We all know how passionate and heated rivalries can be, and I’ve been lucky enough to experience it.

“I’ve seen the recent comments about José Mourinho. Trust me when I tell you I have known José for 25 years and he is not a racist and history (past and recent) is there to prove it.

“Let’s focus on our games, support our brilliant lions and let’s win the league to get close to our 5 stars.

“How can my dad be a racist… come on guys.”
