Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to book their spot in the Europa League semi-finals when they travel to face Eintracht Frankfurt at Deutsche Bank Park on Thursday 17th April at 8pm (UK time). The tie is evenly-poised after a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the first leg. This game will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 3.
Tottenham have conceded the opening goal in three of their five Europa League away games this season.
James Maddison has been directly involved in three goals away from home in the Europa League this season, scoring one alongside two assists.
Eintracht Frankfurt have looked good in the Europa League this season. The German side were one of eight teams to automatically qualify for the last 16 of the Europa League, finishing fifth in the group stage. They won five of their eight games, drawing one and losing twice. Eintracht Frankfurt were then given a potentially tough tie in the last 16 against former European champions Ajax. But they cruised through in the end, with a 6-2 aggregate victory. They also took the lead against Tottenham in the first leg, but had to settle for a draw in the end.
Tottenham also finished in the top eight of the Europa League group stage, sitting one point and one place ahead of Eintracht Frankfurt. They also won five of their eight games, but drew two alongside one defeat. Ange Postecoglou’s men had to work hard for their spot in the quarter-finals, losing the first leg of their last 16 tie against AZ Alkmaar. But a 3-1 second-leg victory did the trick. The Europa League is Tottenham’s last chance to secure European football for next season, so this will be their most-important game of the campaign.
Kevin Trapp is a long-term absentee for Eintracht Frankfurt, and hasn’t been included in their Europa League squad. Ansgar Knauff is also injured.
This game is expected to be too soon for Dejan Kulusevski and Kevin Danso, though both are set to return before April is up. Destiny Udogie had to come off in the first leg, though it was later confirmed to be cramp. Radu Dragusin is out for the season.
This will be the sixth meeting between these two sides, and the fourth in just under three years. Tottenham are unbeaten in those three matches, with one win alongside two draws. Eintracht Frankfurt’s sole victory over Tottenham came in the second leg of their European Cup Winners’ Cup tie in 1982, though the English side still advanced on aggregate.
