Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has issued a clear rallying call to the rest of the squad over their approach to the upcoming matches across competitions.

In particular, the former Borussia Dortmund frontman has eyed the immediate clash against Tottenham as the perfect opportunity to ‘attack’ and return Manchester City to winning ways following a four-game losing streak.

Defeats against this weekend’s opponents in the Carabao Cup, Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League, and Sporting in the UEFA Champions League have left some supporters questioning this side’s trophy-winning capabilities for this season.

Those worries have largely stemmed from a concerning injury situation, heightened by the long-term absences of Oscar Bobb and Rodri, and most recently added to through Mateo Kovacic, leaving Pep Guardiola with limited top-level options in certain matches.

Speaking to Manchester City’s official website ahead of the meeting with Tottenham on Saturday afternoon, Erling Haaland has issued a clear message to his teammates about their approach towards the contest at the Etihad Stadium.

“It’s an important game. It’s a tough game – they always are against Tottenham but it’s also always nice games against them and I’m looking forward to it,” Haaland insisted.

“We have to be ready and perform at our best – better than we have been doing in our last games. We have to start winning games – it’s what Manchester City is about. Let’s attack,” he exclaimed.

Looking back across the season so far, the Norway international – who remains by far and away Manchester City’s most prolific scorer so far – believes the performances have not been to the standard expected within the club.

“It’s been okay [this season] – it hasn’t been perfect, and we can always do better,” the 24-year-old admitted. “There have been a lot of ups and downs. We started really well then, we had some problems. It’s been good and it’s been bad – it’s been both.”

He continued, “We look ahead, focus on what’s next and try to do our best in the next games – we have to attack the games.

“Of course, we’ve been suffering with a lot of injuries but in the end no matter who plays you have to do your best for the team and the club – that’s what matters. We try to get through it together. The mood is good – people are happy, I’m happy.

“I’m trying to enjoy every single day and to spread positivity.”

Haaland will be hoping to inspire his Manchester City teammates with an immediate win after the international break, by transferring his hat-trick antics with Norway against Kazakhstan last week over to club football this weekend and beyond.
