‘Everyone wrote us off’ – Bowen downs Arsenal with landmark Premier League goal | OneFootball

Jarrod Bowen said West Ham United “never wrote ourselves off” after pulling off a shock win at Arsenal in the Premier League.

The east London outfit have struggled to find form this season, but the Hammers captain met Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross towards the end of the first half to put the visitors ahead.

Although the Gunners took 20 shots in the game, they failed to create any clear cut chances their task was made all the greater when Myles Lewis-Skelly was sent off for denial of a goal-scoring opportunity in the 73rd minute.

West Ham held on for their first victory at the Emirates Stadium since December 2023 and three precious points.

“Everyone worked so hard,” Bowen said after the final whistle. “We knew everyone would have to dig in, defend really well and every person to a man did that today and that’s why we’ve got the result.

“Everyone wrote us off but we never wrote ourselves off because we know we can win any football game.”

The winning goal was Bowen’s 50th in the Premier League since joining West Ham from Hull City in January 2020.

“I won the ball and Aaron made a great run and it was a beautiful ball in and I couldn’t miss,” he said.

“I knew I was one off 50 and it was really important for me today to score the goal and win us the game.”

The result means West Ham are now 13 points clear of the relegation zone, but it could be devastating for Arsenal‘s title hopes. They now lie eight points behind leaders Liverpool, who extend the gap to 11 if they beat Manchester City on Sunday.
