Polish international midfielder Piotr Zielinski feels that he has come into an “excellent” midfield since he joined Inter Milan in the summer.
The 30-year-old spoke in a press conference while with his national team, via FCInterNews. He also stated that his form is improving and that he feels he is getting more opportunities.
Zielinski joined Inter from Napoli on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.
The Polish international left the Partenopei after eight years at the club.
Zielinski had established himself as one of the outstanding midfielders in Serie A over the course of a decade with Napoli, Empoli, and Udinese.
Therefore, there were big expectations for Zielinski at Inter.
But at the same time, the Pole was joining a team where the midfield was already very much a strength.
Inter have been able to count on a starting trio of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Nicolo Barella. This was the foundation of last season’s title triumph.
Meanwhile, Davide Frattesi has been growing into the team since his arrival in 2023. And Kristjan Asllani has also been maturing as a football in the role of a backup to Calhanoglu.
Zielinski therefore had his work cut out for him as far as earning playing time at Inter.
The 30-year-old has hardly been a first-choice starter in the first few months of this season. Injuries have also played a role in that respect.
But there have certainly been opportunities for Zielinski.
The former Napoli man started in holding midfield against Juventus last month, for example.
Zielinski noted that “My form is improving.”
“I’m getting more opportunities from the coach [Smone Inzaghi],” he noted. “And I’ve been taking advantage of those chances.”
“We are good at squad rotation, because we have excellent midfielders,” Zielinski said.
“I’m happy,” the Pole declared. “Because I do everything I can to play as much as possible, and the results are there to be seen.”
