Goalkeeper Josep Martinez could get the start for Inter Milan in this evening’s Serie A showdown with Hellas Verona.
This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that Yann Sommer could get a rest ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League second leg against Barcelona.
Inter Milan goalkeeper Josep Martinez has made a handful of starts in his first season at the club.
The Spanish international joined the Nerazzurri from Genoa last summer.
Inter signed Martinez with the intention of making him the long-term heir to Yann Sommer in goal.
However, Sommer has remained the clear first-choice keeper this campaign. Therefore, he has largely held down the starting spot.

Nevertheless, Josep Martinez has made a few appearances for Inter this season.
The Spaniard was Inter’s first-choice keeper in the Coppa Italia. He started every match in that competition up to the semifinal defeat against AC Milan.
Moreover, Martinez had a run of starts in February and March, while Sommer had been recovering from surgery on a thumb fracture.
This included a start in Inter’s 1-1 Serie A draw away to Napoli.
However, Sommer immediately came back into the Inter starting eleven when he returned to fitness.
According to the Gazzetta, though, Sommer may get a rest against Hellas Verona this evening.
Today’s Serie A match comes between the two legs of Inter’s Champions League semifinal tie against Barcelona.
Therefore, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is ready to significantly rotate his squad. His priority is to rest key players for the second leg of that semifinal tie.
And that could include Yann Sommer, reports the Gazzetta.
Therefore, it could be the turn of former RB Leipzig and Las Palmas keeper Martinez to get the nod in Serie A.
