In what has been a harrowing campaign for the Foxes, the Dane has arguably been a standout performer, with many of Leicester’s defeats likely to have been far heavier were it not for his interventions.

The second half of the season has been a dismal spectacle for Leicester, as they suffered defeat after defeat, with their relegation confirmed last weekend following a 1-0 loss at home to Liverpool.

Alongside his teammates, this means Hermansen is set for another season in the Championship. However, his performances this season as well as his form in the Championship during 2023-24 may well attract interest in the summer, with a return to the top flight not out of the question.

Speaking exclusively to Football League World about whether Hermansen may be a target for top-flight clubs in the summer, David Prutton admitted that he has seen enough from the Dane to suggest he can become a Premier League regular.

"Mads Hermansen could attract interest this summer," the former Sheffield Wednesday star told FLW.

"He has been way too busy - the Leicester City goalkeeper - in a defence and a team that has gone straight back down again.

"I am sure that any player who has managed to get up there and have a taste of it wants to be there as long as possible. Whether that means agents are mobilised and moves are sorted, we shall soon see.

"I have seen enough of him to think that he would be on many top-end Championship and Premier League shopping lists."

Leicester City may be forced to sell Mads Hermansen

The drop from the top flight is a massive hammer blow for clubs, not just in terms of status, but also financially.

While they will still benefit from the cushion of parachute payments, they will lose a host of other revenue streams, including losses in TV income, sponsorship-related reductions, and potentially lower matchday attendances.

Combined with the pressures of the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), this could well force Leicester to part with some of their more valuable assets in the summer - and Hermansen is certainly among them.

In their last relegation, we saw Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Timothy Castagne all depart for heavy fees, and it may be a similar outcome this time.

The Danish goalkeeper has three years remaining on his contract at the King Power Stadium, but the Foxes relegation is likely to make him a more attainable target for Premier League clubs.

Asked by Leicestershire Live whether the 24-year-old could attract a large fee, it was clear that head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy was eager to keep hold of him.

"Of course (he could bring in a fee), but the most important thing is to keep your best players. That is the target. Let’s see how the coming weeks go in getting aligned."

Nonetheless, Hermansen, who earns an estimated £10k-a-week at the Foxes, is likely to be offered an opportunity at a higher level this summer, and should he wish to move on from the Foxes, it would come as little surprise were he to push for a transfer.
