FC Twente pick up key midfielder from relegation threatened Sparta Rotterdam | OneFootball

FC Twente have announced the signing of 27-year-old midfielder Arno Verschueren from relegation threatened Sparta Rotterdam. The Belgian attacking midfielder has signed a deal until 2028 with his new side as he swaps a relegation battle for a fight to get into European football next season. So far this year he has had a dip in form, which has coincided with his sides struggles in the league. In 20 Eredivisie matches he has scored once and grabbed two assists. His first goal and second assist of the season came last weekend in the sides crucial 2-1 win over AZ Alkmaar.

Last year Verschueren had a great campaign for Sparta. In 28 matches in all competitions he scored nine goals and grabbed two assists. The year prior he had scored 10 and provided four assists in 37 matches. The former Belgian youth international leaves the Rotterdam club with 23 goals in 99 games. Prior to playing for Sparta he had time in Belgium with Westerlo and Lommel, both of which came either side of an extended spell with NAC Breda. With Breda he played 116 games and scored 13 goals.
