Fernandes: ‘Everyone has to take the blame’ for Ten Hag sacking | OneFootball

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted everyone at the club is partly responsible for Erik ten Hag’s sacking.

The Dutchman was removed as United’s manager in October with the Red Devils sat 14th in the Premier League. Now replaced by Fernandes’ Portuguese countryman Ruben Amorim, the club is looking forward to a brighter future.

Fernandes said: “Obviously if you change the manager in midseason it is because things are not going as you want, and if things are not going as you want everyone has to take the blame.

“It is easier to get rid of a manager than 15 or 20 players, but now our focus is on what the future can bring, and to get as quick as possible on the ideas of the new manager.”

Fernandes has not struggled to adapt to Amorim’s tactical setup having played in a similar setup in the Portugal national team.

He continued: “You always have to adapt to different ideas, different positions, even sometimes playing in the same system sometimes you have to adapt to different ideas on and off the ball because the manager can ask different things. It is not difficult for me to adapt in any position.

“Every time you go to the national team you play a different system. Sometimes we play with a back three, someitmes I play as a 10, sometimes a little deeper, sometimes a little wider.

“We play with a three at the back, then you rotate, and then you end up playing different ways, you press them one way, you defend in another way, you attack in a way, you always have to move. In the national team we do that a lot.”

He also extended some advice to the younger members of the United squad ahead of their Europa League home tie against Bodo Glimt.

“It is about carrying the most you can from the dynamics and the players you have around,” he added. “Then every training session try to get something from the game and understand what the manager demands. As the manager said, you don’t need to overthink things, you just have to know we have a place, a foundation, and from there you have to play and do your game.”
