Emile Heskey Backs Liverpool to Beat PSG but Warns Reds of ‘Underrated’ Star

With Liverpool on track to lift the Premier League title after a huge 2-0 win over Newcastle United last week, attention now turns to the UEFA Champions League. The Reds comfortably secured top spot with a near-perfect league phase and were subsequently ‘rewarded’ with a last-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain.

Arne Slot’s side face an away clash in the opening leg on Wednesday, before the return leg at Anfield on March 11th.

The French giants find themselves in some serious form ahead of the clash too, with ten wins on the bounce across all competitions and 22 games unbeaten. That run of form also includes a 4-2 victory over Manchester City, 4-1 win over Stuttgart, 5-2 and 7-0 wins over Brest and another 7-0 win over Stade Briochin.

With that being said, former Liverpool forward Emile Heskey spoke exclusively to Anfield Index and shared his confidence ahead of the clash but was also keen to highlight one major threat…

PSG’s ‘Underrated’ Star

As you would expect from a side putting up such impressive goalscoring numbers, PSG boast a wealth of attacking talent. January signing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has has joined the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Bradley Barcola, Goncalo Ramos and Desire Doue in the front-line.

However, it was former Barcelona forward Dembele who has caught the eye of Heskey.

“He is absolutely flying at the moment and I’ve always been a big fan of his,” began Heskey, “He doesn’t get as many plaudits as he deserves. He’s massively underrated.”

“He’s a player that can go either way and I’m not sure that even he knows which foot is his dominant one!” said Heskey, “He’s very direct too and Liverpool will have to be on their toes all night to deal with him.”

The 27-year-old forward already has 26 goals to his name so far this season, with six of those coming in his eight UEFA Champions League appearances.

Heskey’s Prediction

“I think Liverpool will be fine in that one,” began Heskey, “They’re a very confident team at the moment and I don’t see too many problems with that one.”

“PSG’s owners and they money that they have spend get spoke about a lot more than their actual accomplishments, especially in Europe.”

“I definitely think Liverpool will go through to the next round and even if they are considered as the underdogs, they will take it to their opponents.”

As it stands, Liverpool still have the chance of lifting three trophies by the end of the season. They currently sit 13 points clear at the top of the Premier League table and are also set to clash with Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley.

Should they progress past the round of 16, they will meet either Club Brugge or Aston Villa in the Quarter-Final. Unai Emery’s side secured a 3-1 away win in the first leg, making them strong favourites to reach the last eight.
