Despite Tottenham’s recent narrow defeat to Manchester City, there have been noticeable improvements in the team’s overall performance.
In recent matches, Ange Postecoglou has found a way to get his team playing well again, and a large part of the fanbase is pleased with what they’ve seen on the pitch.
Meanwhile, rumours of potential departures and arrivals continue to grow, and Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on a Tottenham player who could leave in the summer.
We also recently reported that Real Madrid are closely monitoring a Tottenham star, specifically Micky Van de Ven.
For now, we'll focus on comments from a former Tottenham player explaining why Ange Postecoglou’s team will be playing better from now on.
In an interview with Stadium Astro, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson explained the benefits of Guilherme Vicario’s return to Ange Postecoglou’s team.
Robinson stated that with Vicario on the pitch, thanks to his decision-making and confidence, the team can comfortably play out from the back.
This is something that wouldn’t be possible, for example, with Fraser Forster as the starting goalkeeper.
"There’s a stat that I looked at when Vicario came out of the team: 7% of his passes in open play went over the halfway line, only 7%, so that shows how key he was to the way that Ange Postecoglou played," Robinson explained.
"Fraser Forster came in, and the manager asked him to do something that he couldn’t do (...) he looked like a fish out of water at times because the manager was asking him to play in a certain way that he couldn’t do."
Tottenham must take advantage of the fact that they currently have some of the key defensive pieces for the team’s success.
From Vicario to centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, it’s crucial for the coaching staff and fitness team to work effectively to keep them fit and available.
Additionally, it could be beneficial for the sporting director to focus solely on players with a similar profile to the team’s current stars or those specifically requested by Ange Postecoglou or any future manager.
