Gian Piero Gasperini admits Atalanta go into a ‘potentially fundamental clash’ with Bologna, as they go from Scudetto contenders to hanging on for the top four. ‘We are well aware of our situation.’

It kicks off at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo at 11.30 UK time (10.30 GMT).

The tension is sky high after three consecutive defeats, because just a month after they were in the frame for the Scudetto race, now La Dea are battling to keep hold of a top four spot.

Juventus won last night, so are guaranteed fourth place no matter what happens in Bergamo, as they’ll leapfrog one of these two teams.

“When you lose, confidence is never boosted, but you recover energy the closer you get to a big game, not focusing on what shouldn’t have happened before,” Gasperini told DAZN.

“We are well aware of our situation, we know that we need to win some games, and this is already a potentially fundamental clash.”

Injuries are piling up for Charles De Ketelaere, Stefan Posch, Gianluca Scamacca, Giorgio Scalvini and Marco Palestra, but Odilon Kossounou and Rafael Toloi return to the squad.

Mario Pasalic steps in to bring more solidity, but Atalanta will not change their traditional high line for this clash.

“Bologna have their own very clear tactical identity that has allowed them to put together a run of positive results. We too have an identity and it’s not a positive or negative result that can change that overnight.”

Atalanta have not won a single home match in 2025, remarkably ruining the advantage they ought to have in their revamped stadium.

“Undoubtedly, if we are able to win the home fixtures we have remaining, then we’ll achieve our target. It’s true we have not won here in 2025, even though the performances deserved better results. Every match from now on where we can reach a turning point can be fundamental,” concluded Gasperini.
