Gasperini: ‘I wasn’t too happy with Lookman’, Atalanta close to their ‘goal’ despite ‘incidents’

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini cited ‘injuries’, a lack of ‘alternative solutions’, and various ‘incidents’ as key reasons behind his side’s dropped points at home this season, while admitting they struggled to rediscover the same attacking cohesion shown earlier in the campaign.
La Dea cruised past Monza with a 4-0 victory that further bolstered their impressive away record, having collected 39 of their 68 Serie A points on the road, in stark contrast to their inconsistent form at the Gewiss Stadium.

“Despite the injuries—we’ve had Scalvini, Kossounou, and Kolasinac out—we’ve never had major defensive problems,” Gasperini told DAZN after his side’s win.
“At home, especially in the second half of the season, we’ve lacked the attacking cohesion we had earlier in the year.
“Our overall attacking performance has dropped, we haven’t found alternative solutions, and that’s cost us points at home.
“There have also been some unlucky games, with incidents that made the difference—penalties not awarded, questionable red cards.
“I’m not saying all of them, but a few of those calls could have given us more points. We haven’t made home advantage count, while away from home we’ve been almost consistently solid.”

Gasperini also commented on the performances of Charles De Ketelaere and Ademola Lookman, who had both disappointed against Lecce last time out but responded emphatically by sharing three of La Dea’s four goals of the afternoon between them.
“De Ketelaere started really strong, he did very well,” Gasperini said.
“Lookman did well in the second half; I wasn’t too happy with him in the first.
“Carnesecchi was decisive a few times in the first half and also at the end.
“We can’t afford to lose focus: we’re very close to our goal, and we need the enthusiasm to keep flying and reach another important milestone. Wasting it due to lapses in concentration would be a real shame.”
