GdS: Milan and Juventus want Conte just one year after rejecting him | OneFootball

One year ago, Antonio Conte was snubbed by AC Milan and Juventus in pursuit of something new, but the manager has certainly had the last laugh so far.

As highlighted by Gazzetta dello Sport this morning (see photo below), the turnaround for the manager is rather remarkable. From being unwanted to leading Napoli to the top positions, the tables have turned completely.

Cold hand initially

Just one year ago, Conte was one of the candidates for both the Juvents and Milan benches, but they opted for a ‘no thanks’ in the end. Cristiano Giuntoli focused on Thiago Motta for a three-year project, while Giorgio Furlani and Zlatan Ibrahimovic called Paulo Fonseca.

“At Milan, you have a coach, not a manager. It’s different. We didn’t talk with Conte because we had certain criteria. With all due respect to him, who is a great manager, he’s not what we were looking for,” Ibrahimovic said about the decision at the time.

Both clubs ended up regretting it, while Aurelio De Laurentiis and Napoli snatched a great coach for the Scudetto.

Most-wanted manager on the market

One year later and Napoli are second in the standings, with Conte confirming himself as one of the best head coaches for Serie A. If he’s the coach of a team, then that team will definitely be in the running for the Scudetto, that much is clear.

Now, Conte is one of the big names on the market and he’s already being linked with the top clubs for the 2025-26 season. Napoli want to keep him and are relying on the contract until 2027, but Juventus are trying to understand if they can bring him ‘back home’.

Milan are also keeping a close eye on the situation, looking for an Italian coach, and they cannot be ruled out of the race.
