GdS: ‘Theao’ takes care of it – Milan’s left flank leads the way again in comeback win | OneFootball

Sergio Conceicao has called for leaders to emerge within the AC Milan squad and for players to take ownership, which Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao did last night.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport (seen below) write this morning, the comeback engineered by Theo and Leao against Como last night is reminiscent of the Riyadh derby, with Hernandez’s free kick and Rafa’s assist bringing the Supercoppa Italiana to Milan.

It is only a vague resemblance, because in Como the climb was more painful. Milan found it very difficult to get the three points against a side one point above the drop zone, with Conceicao becoming so heated that he went from a jacket to a thin black shirt in a few seconds.

Even Theo and Rafa’s contributions were not the same: the left-back scuffed a shot that looped into the top corner for a record-breaking goal, while the Portuguese winger scored rather than assisting and with ice cold composure.

Theo reacted after the game as follows: “I am happy to write the history of this club. For me it’s a pride and to surpass my idol Paolo is incredible. Now we have to continue on this path and I have to continue to score more goals.”

The most convincing attitude he showed was after the 90th minute when the Frenchman happily jumped up and down under the Curva of the visiting fans and when he was also involved in the huddle on the field at the end.

Leao on the other hand was probably Milan’s best player. He helped in the defensive phase, caused issues with his movement and – as mentioned before – scored the goal that ultimately brought the three points home from the lake.

Even after the game the comments from the former Lille man showed a certain humility: “It was a team match, we all fought together until the end and even in the difficult moment we didn’t give up.

“Conceiçao brought us what was missing: maybe before we didn’t put all our energy on the pitch. We are very happy with what the coach is giving: everyone tries to give their best and winning these matches gives us a lot of strength.”

The comeback was completed thanks to ‘Theao’, but more will be needed to get a top four spot. Without Champions League football in the summer there will be a revolution because of the revenues guaranteed in the top European competition.

For Hernandez the decisive moment in the negotiations for the extension of the contract is approaching. If Leao sees himself in red and black also in the future, for Theo the same assumption applies: he wants to stay. Champions League permitting.
