Erik ten Hag had little success signing players from former club Ajax during his time at Manchester United, but Ruben Amorim could have more joy recruiting stars from ex-employer Sporting CP.
The Portuguese has made an immensely underwhelming start to life at Old Trafford and funds were limited during his first transfer window at the helm this winter. Patrick Dorgu was the only first-team addition, arriving for £29.2m in January.
Plans will be drawn up for the coming summer over the next few months and Sporting wonderkid Geovany Quenda is reportedly high on United's wishlist. Amorim handed the talented 17-year-old his debut in Lisbon and the teenager has since made over 30 appearances for the Portuguese giants.
€40m could be enough to persuade Sporting to sell one of their prized assets, with Quenda currently operating in the wide midfield role within Sporting's 3-4-2-1 system created by Amorim. It's the formation he has since implemented at Old Trafford, albeit rather unsuccessfully thus far, and the arrival of a familiar face with enormous potential could help the young coach achieve his targets.
These are the current United players who would suffer from Quenda's arrival this summer.

Antony's future at United is uncertain, to put it kindly. The Brazilian has become one of the worst value-for-money signings in Premier League history following a nightmarish £86m transfer from Ajax and has been shipped out on loan to Real Betis to offer him some much-needed game time.
All sizzle and no steak, the 24-year-old will face an almighty challenge to win over Amorim and the arrival of Quenda would only push him further down the pecking order. Capable of playing in the wide midfield or inside forward roles, the Sporting youngster would swiftly leapfrog Antony in the hierarchy having already forged a relationship with Amorim in Portugal.
Unless Antony can rediscover his mojo in Spain, there appears no way back for the flashy Brazilian.
Diogo Dalot's position could be under threat / Visionhaus/GettyImages
Quenda has often featured in a wide role - either on the left or right - for Sporting, performing the same function as compatriot Diogo Dalot in the current United team.
Dalot has been one of United's more impressive performers during a torrid 18 months - although not immune from criticism - but his lack of regular attacking ingenuity and flair could see him replaced in Amorim's preferred XI in the future. At the moment, very few United players are safe.
Quenda's ability to add an explosive and attack-minded dynamic to United's wide areas would suit Amorim's system, with Dalot potentially forced to settle for a more reserved and sporadic role.
