The Republic of Ireland international is poised to start this Sunday’s clash against Celtic’s fiercest rivals and has emphasised the crucial role spectators play in making the fixture truly special.
Scales featured in Celtic’s 3-0 drubbing at Ibrox in January but was unavailable for Brendan Rodgers’ side’s 3-2 defeat to their rivals at Celtic Park in March.
Speaking during a JD Sports event in Dublin on Wednesday, Scales discussed his anticipation for Sunday’s game: “I am definitely looking forward to having the fans there,” he said. “It is a tough place to go, and they are always tough games, but it will help having the fans back there. It will be a good experience; I have never experienced it with the fans, so I am really looking forward to it.”

Outside of his Celtic duties, the centre-back reflected on his international career under new Irish manager Heimir Hallgrimsson. Scales has earned nine caps for the Republic of Ireland since his debut in 2023.

Scales said: “It is competitive all over the squad, it is a competitive position [centre-back] as well, and all the lads are top players. I mean, that is the dream, is it not? To play for Ireland and to have hopefully 50 or 100 caps for Ireland, but I will do my best!”
Continuing on Hallgrimsson, Liam Scales added: “He is [laid back], I have really enjoyed it. He has been good since coming in, and now, I think this is where it sort of gets important when we’re going into this World Cup qualifying campaign.
“We know that he wants the best for the group, and you can see he is trying to push us. We are really looking forward to this World Cup campaign, and that is the plan, to qualify.”
