Guglielmo Vicario says Tottenham squad are ‘fully’ behind Postecoglou ahead of must-win AZ clash | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has offered his full support to under-fire head coach Ange Postecoglou ahead of Thursday’s Europa League tie decider against AZ Alkmaar.

Spurs suffered a deflating 1-0 defeat against the Dutch side in the first leg at AFAS Stadion, courtesy of an awful own goal from Lucas Bergvall.

Vicario made three saves to keep the North Londoners alive in the tie.

However, Postecoglou’s side lacked cutting edge on the other side of the pitch and barely troubled Rome Jayden Owusu-Oduro in AZ’s goal.

Spurs welcome the Eredivisie side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the must-win affair on the back of a 2-2 draw against top-four hopefuls AFC Bournemouth in the Premier League.

Despite failing to come away with three points against the Cherries, Postecoglou will want his side to show a similar desire to win on Thursday as they look to overturn a narrow first-leg defeat.

The Australian manager has been heavily criticised for refusing to tweak his system despite working with a squad plagued by injuries.

His ‘conviction’ has left Spurs languishing in 13th place on the Premier League table.

Speaking ahead of the must-win game against AZ, Vicario claims the entire Tottenham squad are ‘fully behind’ Postecoglou, whose job may be up for review if Spurs fail to win.

“I can say that his approach has been very, very committed since day one when he joined here,” Vicario said (via Tottenham’s official website).

“He delivered to us the same way to play the game because he truly believes in this.

“We can be successful in this way, and we are fully behind him – fully trying to do the right things that he believes are working for us.

“We know exactly what the game means tomorrow night. We are very conscious of it, and we just want to win the game.

After Thursday’s bout against AZ, Spurs head West of the capital for a Premier League London derby clash against Fulham.
