The national media have been reacting to the latest round of international matches played out this weekend, and there was Chelsea involvement.
I think it has been wise that Chelsea have pulled a number of players out of these latest set of international games, with the importance of Cole Palmer in particular getting a decent rest after getting some recent knocks in games. Levi Colwill was also pulled from the England squad for the same reason.
Others have returned back to Cobham as well, leaving just a very small handful of Chelsea involvement in the current international break.
Both Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku featured for England and France respectively last night, both on the winning teams. Nkunku was very good for France and helped them beat Italy 3-1.
But Madueke seems to be splitting opinions on his England performance amongst the tabloids, with one of them believing he hasn’t done enough to earn a regular starting spot for the national side.
Madueke in action for England
The Blues winger started for England in their 5-0 win over Ireland last night in the Nations League, but The Metro weren’t overly impressed.
Rating Madueke’s performance 6 out of 10, Metro wrote: “The Chelsea winger certainly looks threatening, with great pace and trickery, but the actual end product is not forthcoming that often.
“The 22-year-old will be a great option to throw on from the bench for England, but he hasn’t really demanded a place in the starting XI.”
But not all the tabloids agreed with that, with some of them being a bit kinder with their judgements.
The Express gave the Chelsea winger 7 out of 10 and wrote: “Another decent run out for the Chelsea attacker, who has gone from a player on the fringes of the Blues squad last season, to a regular for both club and country.”
The London Evening Standard rated Madueke 6 out of 10 and noted: “Able to beat players down the right, just as in Athens.
“At one point tried to shoot through five bodies when slipping the ball through to Kane was the better option. England scored their third from his corner.”
