This week sees a quick turnaround for the Green-Whites as, following the 3-1 loss at home to Hoffenheim, Ole Werner’s side are already back in action on Friday night, 21.02.2025 (kick-off 20:30 CET). Ahead of the trip to Freiburg, the SVW head coach answered questions in his press conference about...
… the returning Jens Stage: “Jens is an important player for us so it’s great to have him back. He was feeling a lot better today, so is able to make the squad. He provides us with an additional option if we want to alter things and possesses a lot of good qualities.”
… defensive options: “Milos has back problems, as he did in the last match. This was only a short week of training so he just tried to take part today but things didn’t work out. We hope that he can continue to recover and then be back for the Bielefeld game. There would be two potential replacements in defence in Amos and Julian but Julian has a muscle injury. We have a lot of games in quick succession so everyone is needed. I will obviously not reveal any final decisions.
… recent results: “Results obviously have an effect on the mood in camp but I don’t feel as if we aren’t working well. We know what we need to work on in order to get out of this slump and to get back to winning ways. There are always going to be periods in which things don’t come quite as easily, where results and performances don’t quite go as hoped. It is important to us that players are returning to fitness and getting back up to speed so that we can press on and continue to work on ourselves.”

… opponents SC Freiburg: “The side we are set to take on is largely the same one as that which we faced in the reverse fixture. They retain good discipline and organisation. Our primary task is to stay solid at the back while matching their strong running. We need to be efficient in front of goal, since we are not likely to get too many chances against Freiburg based on how their recent matches have played out. They often take their chances.”
… the upcoming busy schedule: “Every match is important but you can’t make any slip-ups if you want to progress and this is a great chance for us to reach the semi-finals. We have games against in-form teams coming up in the league and I see that as a good chance to move forward. We’re now entering the last third of the season and a decisive period. When we take things one step at a time, then we have more success so that’s what we are aiming to do. I have full confidence in the lads that they will find their rhythm once again and get some good results over the coming weeks.”
… a sold-out away end in Freiburg: “That is something truly incredible. It demonstrates the size of this club. There is green as far as the eye can see in the stands and the supporters are always so loud. We have experienced some special moments on the road already and we hope to give the fans a pleasant journey home with a good game and a positive result.”
