Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is set to welcome Jonny Evans back to the fold after overcoming an injury ordeal.
Upon his arrival at Carrington last month, the Portuguese manager found a depleted defensive department. However, the situation is gradually easing up, with Leny Yoro making his long-anticipated club debut against Arsenal following a lengthy foot injury and Victor Lindelof also rejoining the squad in the past few days.
And now, Amorim will almost have a full squad at his disposal, as Evan has resumed training with his teammates and could be included in the matchday squad for the Manchester Derby against arch-rivals Man City.
The manager confirmed the return of the Northern Irish veteran. “Yeah, he’s training already,” said Amorim via Manchester Evening News.

Evans made 11 appearances across all competitions this season, but has yet to play under the guidance of the newly-appointed head coach. The 36-year-old started his career at Man United and won a host of trophies, including three Premier League titles and a Champions League, before leaving Old Trafford in 2015.
After spells at West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City, he made a surprising return to United in the summer of 2023 amidst a major injury crisis, but proved he could still hang despite reaching the autumn of his playing career. Therefore, the club extended his contract for another year.
Moreover, Amorim said he’s not aware of any injuries suffered by his players in the aftermath of Thursday’s Europa League victory over Viktoria Plzen.
With Evans returning to the squad, Luke Shaw remains the solitary absentee. The Englishman was hoping to hit his stride with Amorim in charge, but sustained an untimely injury in training shortly following the manager’s arrival at the club. The source believes the left-back could make his way back to selection around Christmas.
