Inter Miami CF have now gone on to confirm another audacious step in its pursuit of relevance and consistency in MLS, officially announcing the capture of Venezuelan midfielder Telasco Segovia, 21. He joins from Casa Pia AC, a first-division Portuguese side, on a contract running until 2029, strengthening a roster already well-placed with experienced legends and fresh young talent.
Before finally landing in MLS, Segovia was certainly building up quite the resume for such a young player. Standing out with impressive displays while having developed his career at Deportivo Lara in Venezuela-where he had amassed 9 goals and 20 assists across 108 professional appearances-after then playing in European soccer-in Sampdoria, Italy and Casa Pia of Portugal, for instance-the flair had further molded its way.
On the international stage, the Venezuelan is already a key figure for his national team. He played at the 2024 Copa América and is currently active in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. He has shown with one goal in eight senior caps that he can step up on big occasions.
Inter Miami, now commanded by Javier Mascherano, is in a period of transition and strengthening. Coming off a victorious season culminated by the capture of the Supporters' Shield, the club will have multiple challenges with national and international competitions on its 2025 calendar. In this context, Segovia's arrival adds a piece that can make a difference in key moments.
Segovia adds depth in quality into the middle field and will become very important to Inter Miami as they will enter various national and international tournaments throughout 2025, insisted soccer operations president Raúl Sanllehí.
Segovia is versatile in midfield, capable of contributing both offensively and defensively. This is a critical trait for a squad that combines seasoned stars like Sergio Busquets with rising talents such as Benjamin Cremaschi and Federico Redondo.
Inter Miami has already shown an understanding of the importance of a solid, structured midfield. Busquets brings a wealth of experience and vision not often seen across most MLS teams. But mixing in younger players like Segovia brings energy and unpredictability that is crucial in navigating a congested schedule and playing against a wide variety of opponents.
Segovia's arrival is just one of many moves Inter Miami has made this offseason. It has also signed forwards Fafà Picault and Tadeo Allende, defender Gonzalo Luján, and goalkeeper Rocco Ríos Novo. Those signings prove that Inter Miami thinks big and doesn't want to depend only on the backbone of their stars.
Doubtless, Segovia stands out among the most promising reinforcements. He does not bring only technical quality but also ambition, something that was made clear when he made his first statements as an Inter Miami player: "I arrive with aspirations to help the team win multiple titles, contributing both offensively and defensively.
