La Liga giants Barcelona could be afforded an imminent monetary boost by way of Premier League counterparts Manchester City.
That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who has on Friday provided an insight into the situation.
The brass at English champions City, it is understood, have set their sights firmly on the signature of Porto star Nico González.
Nico, for his part, is in the midst of an exceptional campaign in Portugal, which has given rise to seven goals and six assists in 29 appearances across all competitions to date.
Such exploits have not gone unnoticed across the continent, with a number of clubs said to be keeping a close eye on the development of the 23-year-old.
It is the aforementioned City, though, who have on Friday moved one step clear of the competition.
As per a report from Fabrizio Romano:
‘Manchester City made formal approach with Porto to ask for Nico González as new midfielder. Talks started, Porto hope to keep Nico and ask for important transfer fee or won’t leave.’
The aforementioned Barcelona, meanwhile, will be hopeful of an agreement being found between the parties, with the Blaugrana maintaining a 40% sell-on clause from Nico’s sale back in 2023.
