Arsenal have a mountain to climb in their Women’s Champions League quarter-final second leg showdown with Real Madrid tonight.
Last week in Madrid amid difficult conditions, the Gunners fell to a 2-0 defeat in the first leg after goals in either half from Linda Caicedo and Athenea del Castillo.
As a result, Renee Sleger's side must score at least twice without reply at the Emirates Stadium tonight if they are to avoid a last-eight exit in Europe and set up a semi-final tie against either Bayern Munich or Lyon.
They will be boosted by Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing of Liverpool in the Women’s Super League, particularly striking twice in the space of a minute as a repeat tonight will level the score on aggregate.
However, the Spanish outfit did record an impressive 3-1 win over rivals Barcelona at the weekend, so confidence will be high.
Can Arsenal make home advantage, and a much improved playing surface, count in their favour to overturn the first leg deficit, or will the 2-0 lead prove decisive for Real Madrid?
