Vinicius Junior is set to miss around three weeks with a muscle injury and will not feature when Real Madrid face Liverpool in the Champions League this week.
The Brazil international sustained the problem during their 3-0 win over Leganes on Sunday evening. His absence adds to the mounting issues at Real Madrid, with Eder Militao, David Alaba, Dani Carvajal and Rodrygo also currently sidelined.
Carlo Ancelotti also has doubts over Aurelien Tchouameni and Lucas Vasquez ahead of the trip to Anfield on Wednesday night.
The absence of Vinicius is a major blow to the Spanish champions, with the 24-year-old having scored eight goals and laid on five assists in just 13 La Liga games this season. He’s also scored four goals in four Champions League appearances in 2024/25, including a hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund at the Bernanbeu.
Vinicius boasts a superb record against Liverpool with five goals in five previous appearances against the Reds. Among them was the winner in the 2022 Champions League final, as he scored the only goal during Real Madrid’s 1-0 win over Liverpool in Paris.
The Spaniards are hopeful that Vinicius will return in time for the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final in Doha on December 18.
Real Madrid head into the crucial Champions League game sitting 18th in the standings, with the holders having lost two of their opening four European games this season. Liverpool, in contrast, lead the UCL league phase table with maximum points from four games played.
