Brand new BVB manager Niko Kovač was officially presented to the Black-and-Yellow fans in a press conference this Tuesday morning. Other names from the board, such as Lars Ricken and Sebastian Kehl, were also present at the press conference. The Croatian coach barely arrived at Signal Iduna Park and had already started to give a few tips on his squad planning and who he would use in the first team.

From captain Emre Can, who will remain as captain as Kovač has confirmed, another player was brought into the spotlight: Niklas Süle. The senior center-back has played with Kovač before in Münich and is currently recovering from a syndesmotic ligament tear injury. As the German international should possibly be back in action later in February, there were not enough compliments made from Kovač directed to Niklas:

"I am happy to work with him again. In Munich, he was a regular under me and always played. He started running again yesterday and will hopefully be partially integrated into training by Wednesday. We will take things step by step to reintegrate him into the team. If Niki stays fit, I believe he is a player for the 2026 World Cup."Niko Kovač, BVB manager

As Kovač has already benched Boateng in favor of Süle while coaching in Münich, it is fair to predict that the Croatian will find a way to give Niklas a shot at regaining his old form. It is undoubtfully clear that Kovač rates Süle very highly, which could only benefit BVB, as a healthy and confident Niklas Süle can only aggregate to the first team.

It will also be interesting to see whether Kovač could eventually use a back-three formation as he used to do in Frankfurt. Still, this new era could be the restart button that Süle desperately needed in Black-and-Yellows colors.
