Chelsea came back from 2-0 down to beat Tottenham 4-3 in a thrilling game at White Hart Lane yesterday, and at full time there was the cherry on top – an interview with man of the moment Cole Palmer.
Everyone wanted to know about his penalties – one lashed into the far left, the other chipped down the middle, Panenka style.
“The first one… I just went in the corner. When I first hit it I thought it was going wide,” Palmer said when watching his effort back, in typical understated style.
“And then the second one, I didn’t know I was going to do it. But when I put the ball down, I looked at the clock and I thought ‘it’s just a bit mad, the game’s a bit mad, he’s going to dive. And… he dived,” the attacking midfielder continued.
“I didn’t plan it, but when I put the ball down, when I looked up I knew I was gonna do it.”
He also denied that he ever practiced them, claiming that “if you think about it too much, you’ll do it too hard or too soft.”

There’s also a funny moment as Marc Cucurella walks past and Palmer asks about the boots – presumably the ones that the full back had been wearing when he slipped over twice in the first ten minutes, leading to the two Tottenham goals.
“Where are they?” asks Palmer, and Cucurella replies “in the bin,” to which Palmer laughed.
We’re not sure if Palmer was just being very comic and dry and asking Cucurella about the boots for the sake of the cameras, or whether Cucurella had actually borrowed some of Palmer’s boots in the first place.
