Eberechi Eze inspired Crystal Palace to a 3-0 win over Fulham and a place in the semi-finals of the FA Cup at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
The hosts were the better side in the opening exchanges, but the England winger cut in on the left to unleash a brilliant strike past Bernd Leno in the 34th minute for the first goal of the game.
Moments later the 26-year-old saw his whipped cross headed in by Ismaila Sarr to double the Eagles’ lead. A late finish from substitute Eddie Nketiah confirmed their place in the last four for the first time since 2022.
“It was an important goal,” Eze told ITV1 of his opener. “I’m happy to help the team and that’s what I’m here for. We didn’t start the best, it was difficult and there was a lot of defending but eventually we broke them down.
He added: “I want to get the ball in the pockets and cutting inside, thank God it went in today. We took our chances when we got them and we put in a good performance.
Asked whether Palace have what it takes to win the FA Cup, Eze responded: “We’re confident in ourselves and we know what we can do, we know what we are capable of. It’s games like today where you show the mentality which will get you further in the tournament.”
Former Crystal Palace striker Ian Wright lavished praise on Eze after the full-time whistle. “You cannot give Eberechi Eze the space to cut inside. It was poor defending by Fulham. Eze is an amazing talent and we see it there [in the opening goal].”
He added: “Once Palace realised that Fulham weren’t hurting them, they started to do their stuff. It was ruthless from Palace in the end.”
