Injured Real Madrid veteran hints towards returning to on-field training | OneFootball

Real Madrid have bonafide stars across the field with many players who may well be the best in the world in their position.

The right-back department, however, has been relatively short-staffed this season with Lucas Vazquez not delivering the required consistency and quality for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

The manager, thus, has been forced to deploy Federico Valverde in the department in the big games. While the Uruguayan has done largely well, his absence from midfield is a big blow.

Veteran star gearing for return

The primary reason behind Real Madrid’s struggles in the right-back department, undoubtedly, is the injury Dani Carvajal suffered last year which ruled him out effectively for the entire season.

After all, the Spanish veteran is Los Blancos’ first-choice right-back and his loss was a big blow to Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.

Carvajal, however, is putting his best foot forward to ensure that he returns to action at the earliest, possible even before the end of the season.

Earlier today, he put out a story on his official Instagram page that contained a picture of his football boots and the caption ‘how much I missed you’.

Needless to say, the update is an indication that the player is working hard and is close to a return to on-field training.

Real Madrid have offered no specific timeline for the veteran’s return, but rumours indicate that he is looking to return in time for the Club World Cup in June later this season.

The earlier he returns, the better it is for Ancelotti and Co., especially given how he is the team’s only reliable natural right-back option who can deliver week in and week out.

Given the team’s struggles in the department and Carvajal’s age, Los Blancos may even look to sign a new right-back in the summer to develop under Carvajal’s tutelage.
