Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer delivered his verdict on an ‘important’ 1-0 win against RB Leipzig last night.
During his post-game talk with Sky Sports via FCInterNews, the veteran shot-stopper admitted he was proud of his side’s performance.
Simone Inzaghi’s men took another significant step toward automatic knockout qualification.
Indeed, it’s been a stellar start to the newly formatted league phase for the reigning Scudetto holders.
The Italian heavyweights have clicked into gear following a spirited 0-0 draw against Manchester City on day one.
Four consecutive victories ‘to nil,’ bookended by a 1-0 triumph against Leipzig, catapulted Inter to the table’s summit.
However, Liverpool could reclaim the top spot with a win against Real Madrid in tonight’s blockbuster at Anfield.
Nonetheless, Inter are firmly in contention for a coveted top-eight finish.
Yann Sommer has been among the protagonists of Inter’s incredible European journey this season.
Though he only had to make one save last night, his presence in goal was pivotal in maintaining the team’s defensive solidity.
“It’s an important victory,” Sommer said after the match. “In some situations, we had to defend, and we did it well.
“We could have scored a second goal, but we’re happy with the three points.”
Asked whether Inter look more mature in Europe, Sommer replied: “es, I share the same opinion.
“It’s important to defend like this; in these matches, details are crucial.
“We’re compact, we don’t concede much, and that’s why we’ve managed to keep a clean sheet.
“We’ve always defended with balance.
“What’s very important is being able to switch between the league and the Champions League.
“We have to focus on each match, we need to rotate because we have a large squad, and that’s a key point.
“And we have a lot of experience. We’ll take it one match at a time.”
