Inter Milan legend Beppe Bergomi believes his club’s defeat in the Derby della Madonnina against AC Milan was down to the mental aspect.

The Nerazzurri entered last weekend’s showdown as the big favorites to win. Nevertheless, the Rossoneri managed to put an end to their six-match losing streak by finally beating their crosstown rivals.

Christian Pulisic put the Diavolo ahead in the first half, but Federico Dimarco leveled the scoring after combining well with his captain Lautaro Martinez.

Nevertheless, Milan were again the better side in the second period and eventually found a late winner, with Matteo Gabbia emerging as the unlikely hero.

For his part, Bergomi feels that Simone Inzaghi’s men didn’t have the right approach.

He argues that the players entered the match with the wrong attitude which caused their defeat.

“Inter have lost the derby in their minds and attitude,” said the 60-year-old during his appearance on Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.

“It was completely wrong, especially the second half.”

The legendary defender also felt that those who came off the bench, like Davide Frattesi and Piotr Zielinski, failed to turn the tide in Inter’s favor.

“Zielinski and Frattesi have different energies. Barella didn’t have a great Derby. However, when he moved to a deeper role and Frattesi played in the box-to-box role, everything went badly.

“When Inter change their personnel, they start playing differently. Frattesi relies on his runs to the box and not on ball possession.

“With him, you can play even with just one striker and add Bisseck to the equation.”
