Inter Milan midfield dynamo Nicolo Barella finished 2024 as the best-ranked Italian player in the Guardian’s top 100.
According to the English publication via FCInterNews, Barella earned 46th place, outperforming his fellow Italian compatriots.
Barella has been Inter’s driving force in the midfield since joining the club from Cagliari in 2019.
Indeed, he has helped the Nerazzurri win two Serie A titles, including a landmark 20th Scudetto last term.
Moreover, he wasn’t just a team player but one of Simone Inzaghi’s first-team favorites.
Knowing Inzaghi’s squad rotations, 37 league appearances in 2023/24 speaks enough about Barella’s importance.
After a Scudetto-winning campaign with Inter, Barella hoped to inspire Italy to another memorable EURO run.
However, Luciano Spalletti’s side failed to make it out of the group stages despite lifting the trophy in the previous edition.
Barella was the last man to blame, considering he was a rare shining light in an otherwise anemic squad.
Unfazed by Italy’s EURO 2024 fiasco, Barella has maintained his formidable club form this season.
Indeed, he has already eclipsed last season’s league haul, tallying three goals and four assists across 14 top-flight outings.
Simone Inzaghi will rely heavily on Barella when Inter take on Atalanta on Thursday.
