Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta addressed the press in the build-up to tonight’s crucial Serie A game against Atalanta.
Speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews, Marotta explained why the Italian giants recently faced domestic criticism.
Despite commencing this round at the top of the pile, Inter have recently stuttered in Serie A.
For context, they’ve won none of their last four league games on the road, picking up just two points in that sequence.
Moreover, Lautaro Martinez and his teammates struggled in front of goal, netting only twice across those four matches.
However, they’re still the division’s joint-best attacking side with 63 goals – as many as Atalanta.
Therefore, there’s no reason to panic as Simone Inzaghi seems on course to lead Inter to back-to-back league titles.
Marotta admitted that he agrees with Inzaghi, stating that Inter’s achievements this season haven’t received enough credit.
“Yes, and when the results don’t go our way, the criticism becomes excessive,” he said.

“We need to find balance, but as professionals, we have to get used to receiving criticism and turn it into winning motivation.
“After all, we represent a prestigious club with important goals.”
Asked whether tonight’s match is psychologically significant to Inter, Marotta replied: “Yes. Defending a title the following year is harder than winning it.
“Not having won direct clashes is just a statistical fact. What truly matters is the team’s approach to the game.
“The way this match is evaluated will shape the final stretch of the season in one way or another.
“I see it as a test to pass against a very strong team, one that fully deserves its current position.
“They have a great chance of going all the way and winning the Scudetto.
“They are one of our competitors, just like Napoli.”
