Inter Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu says that last weekend’s loss to AC Milan is “already behind” the Nerazzurri.
The Turkish international spoke to InterTV, via FCInterNews, ahead of this evening’s Serie A clash with Udinese.
Inter lost for the first time this season last Sunday.
And the fact that the defeat came in the derby against city rivals Milan certainly made it all the more painful.
Inter had won the previous six derby matches going into last Sunday.
But the Nerazzurri were well below par. The 2-1 scoreline was if anything kind to them, as they allowed themselves to be overran for long stretches.
Inter can’t afford to dwell on last weekend’s disappointment, though.
The Nerazzurri need to recover and get back to winning ways immediately. Otherwise, they could risk a crisis that sees their Serie A title defense fall apart early on in the campaign.
“The loss to Milan certainly hurt for us,” Inter midfielder Calhanoglu admitted.
“Because it always hurts to lose.”
“But we’ve already put it behind us,” the 30-year-old, formerly a Rossoneri player, insisted.
“This week we worked well in training. We had some anger in us, because we know how strong we are.”
“Of course we know that it won’t be easy here in Udine,” Calhanoglu made clear.
“But we have positive feelings, because we worked very well over the week.”
Midfielder Calhanoglu continued that “I want to give my best today.”
“Because now it’s time for us to get back to the team we were last season, and in previous seasons.”
“I think my teammates are fired up as well,” the Turk added.
Of this evening’s opposition, Calhanoglu noted that “They have a new coach.”
“A German I’m familiar with from the Bundesliga,” he said of Friulani coach Kosta Runjaic.
“We’ll see what they look like on the pitch. Maybe they’ll make some changes, but I’m focused on the work we’re doing.”
