On the eve of the Derby della Madonnina, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi spoke at his usual press conference and once again blamed the officiating in the Supercoppa Italiana final. He did, however, admit that Milan deserved to win in the reverse fixture.
Tomorrow’s game will be an important one for Inter in the Scudetto, and for Milan in their pursuit of a top-four finish. However, the bragging rights are just as important and after losing the previous two derbies, the Nerazzurri need to bounce back with a win.
Speaking at the usual pre-game press conference earlier today, as cited by FCInterNews, Inzaghi admitted that Milan deserved to win the reverse fixture. Only because Inter played their worst game, though, and he also blamed the officiating in the Supercoppa final.
How do you manage the mental aspect?
“We all know what the derby represents, it will be full of pitfalls because Milan are a great team with a lot of quality. We will need a great Inter, aggressive and determined. For us, it is very important”.
What kind of match will it be? And will the fact that Milan are changing a lot in attack make things more difficult?
“We know the value of the team we will face. The first derbies went poorly, the first deservedly, in the second in Riyadh we were in control initially and we had to be better. The first goal was tainted by a foul on Asllani, but we had to react better.
“We missed the goal for 3-1 more than once and then we saw how it ended. We have to be better in the most decisive moments of the match but we know that this also happens in football.”
What went wrong in the Supercoppa?
“In my opinion, as I said before, in the first derby Milan deserved it. We played our worst game. In the Supercoppa, we should have managed it better, there was a foul on Asllani that wasn’t penalized before Milan’s first goal. But this can happen.”
Is Conceicao’s cigar in Riyadh an extra push for revenge?
“No, I’m not interested. I’m interested in doing well on the pitch and understanding the moments in which we made mistakes because matches are made up of many moments and many episodes and you have to be good at reacting.”
It remains to be seen if Inzaghi and his men will get the revenge they crave tomorrow evening. Milan are the designated home team and will have most of San Siro on their side, but Inter are arguably in better form right now.
