Jamie Carragher has revealed he’s surprised no one has argued Cole Palmer should be on Liverpool’s radar this summer.

The Blues are once again set for a busy summer and could look to sell as many as seven or eight players in order to fund their business.

Chelsea face a critical window with the club looking to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Carragher makes Palmer claim

As well as looking to strengthen the squad, the Blues will want to keep hold of their top stars, with Palmer falling into that category.

The 22-year-old has struggled over the second half of the season and hasn’t scored for the Blues since the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth in January.

Maresca has revealed he thinks Palmer struggles aren’t tactical, and the Blues have managed to pick up results without their main attacking threat contributing.

There’s been talk of Palmer leaving if Chelsea don’t get Champions League football, although there’s said to be no clauses in his contract relating to that.

It had been reported Liverpool were considering a shock move for the England international who’s scored 14 goals this season, and Carragher has admitted he’s surprised more people aren’t saying he should be on their radar.

“It has been suggested that Liverpool should build for the title defence by breaking the bank for Alexander Isak,” he told The Telegraph.

“It surprises me that no one has argued that Cole Palmer should be on the new champions’ radar.”

Chelsea need to keep their top star

Champions League football is crucial if Chelsea want to keep their top stars, and the longer they aren’t in the competition the more difficult it could be.

Moises Caicedo is said to be an ambitious target for Saudi side Al Nassr, whilst Enzo Fernandez has been linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Although Palmer is under contract until 2033 he won’t want to be watching the Champions League on television year after year.

The easiest way for Chelsea to keep him happy is to qualify and show they can compete for and win major trophies and give him no reason to want to leave.
