Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella is happy to help Lautaro Martinez end his goal drought, and says that he “prefers assisting to scoring goals.”

The 27-year-old spoke to Italian broadcaster DAZN, via FCInter1908, after the Nerazzurri’s 3-0 Serie A win over Cagliari. He assisted Martinez for the Argentine’s first goal in nearly two months for Inter.

Inter got three big points in Serie A this evening away to Cagliari.

And Nerazzurri captain Lautaro Martinez got on the scoresheet for the first time in almost two months in the league,

The Argentine had last scored in an Inter shirt against Venezia in November.

But Martinez finally broke his duck this evening. The 27-year-old latched onto a cross from his teammate Nicolo Barella to put away Inter’s second goal of the match.

After the match, Inter midfielder Barella commented that “We’ve improved this year.”

“We have to thank the coach for that,” the Italian international continued. “This is an incredible group, everyone’s going in the same direction.”

“That’s the most important thing. Even more than victories.”

As far as his his assist for Martinez – and also for Alessandro Bastoni for Inter’s opener, Barella said that it’s “always nice to assist goals.”

“I’ve always said that I prefer assisting to scoring,” the Italian international claimed.

“That’s the truth.”

“I’m happy for Lautaro,” Barella added. “He deserves it, he works for the team.”

Meanwhile, Barella predicted that the Supercoppa Italiana semifinal against Atalanta will be a “good match, between two strong teams.”

“This season they’ve taken another step to close the gap,” Barella said of Atalanta.

“We have to congratulate them. But we want to win against everyone.”

“We’ll be ready for it,” Barella said of the Supercoppa.
