Jonas Omlin’s first-half red card makes life difficult for Borussia Mönchengladbach, who suffered a 3-0 home defeat to FC Augsburg. Alexis Claude-Maurice scored a 15-minute hat-trick for the visiting side after the break.
“We had a very good start,” Seoane went for the positives in his post-match reaction. “But we didn't get more out of the possession. The numerical superiority was created because we weren't determined enough. Immediately after the red card, we still had some good situations.
“However, the longer the game went on, the more we were forced to defend in the block. We could have defended the three goals better. Overall, we made too many mistakes in this game.”
Gladbach’s defender Nico Elvedi took responsibility for Omlin’s red card. “It was a bad back pass from me. I feel extremely sorry for Jonas (Omlin). We made it too easy for Augsburg in several situations.” said the experienced center-back.
Augsburg’s coach Jess Thorup agrees with his counterpart on Gladbach’s strong start. "We didn't get off to a good start. In the first ten minutes, Gladbach's strengths on the ball were evident, and we were challenged defensively. Then came the red card,” said the coach who celebrated his 55th birthday yesterday.
“We probably thought it would be easy after the sending-off,” he continued before sharing the half-time mood in Augsburg’s dressing room. “I had to raise my voice a bit. Then, we controlled the game and created chances. The fact that we are now unbeaten in seven games gives us confidence for the challenges ahead."
Claude-Maurice, who became the first Augsburg player to score a flawless Bundesliga hat-trick (consecutive three goals all in one half), also shared his delight after the game. “I'm happy about the win and the three goals. It's an honor for me to be the first Augsburg player to score a flawless hat-trick in the Bundesliga.”
