Newcastle United missed the chance to go fourth in the Premier League after losing 2-1 to Fulham at the weekend.

The Magpies got the first goal through Jacob Murphy, but the Cottagers came from behind to edge the contest at St James’ Park.

Newcastle have no time to dwell on that defeat, with Arsenal set to visit them on Wednesday for the second-leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

The Tyneside club have a great opportunity to reach the Wembley final for the second time under Eddie Howe, as they already have a 2-0 advantage from the first-leg.

Newcastle could be without three players for Wednesday’s home fixture. Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles are still in the infirmary as they continue to recover from their respective injuries.

The Magpies are also sweating over the fitness of Joelinton after he sustained a knee injury against Fulham. The 28-year-old has been seen wearing a knee brace, sparking concern amongst supporters.

Howe later said the brace was just a precaution, with the English boss not ruling him out against Arsenal.

However, we feel Joelinton will likely not start, allowing Joe Willock to take his place in midfield.

The “energetic” player has made 21 Premier League appearances this season, but only six of them came from the start.

Willock, who is currently earning £80k-per-week, will join Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali in the middle of the park.

However, Howe is expected to keep the same backline that played last time against Fulham, with Tino Livramento, Fabian Schar, Dan Burn and Lewis Hall all set to feature.

Alexander Isak will once again spearhead their attack, flanked by Anthony Gordon and Murphy. Meanwhile, Martin Dubravka will also keep his place between the sticks on Wednesday.
