San Jose Earthquakes star striker Josef Martínez continues to prove he is one of the goalscoring greats in MLS history after finding the back of the net against Sporting KC.
After hitting 11 goals for CF Montréal during the 2024 season, the Venezuelan striker sat seventh in the all-time MLS goals chart, but an off-season move to San Jose and linking up with boss Bruce Arena brought expectations of that number increasing.
Though he failed to open his account on opening weekend, the 31-year-old is finally off the mark for his new employers with an effort from inside six yards that temporarily doubled the Earthquakes advantage on the scoresheet.
With that, Martínez drew level with Bradley Wright-Phillips for sixth all-time in the goals chart, a position he is guaranteed to make his own in due course.
Giovanni Savarese will be proud.
