Journalist Confirms Alisson Could Leave Liverpool This Summer

Liverpool’s goalkeeping department has never looked stronger, yet the impending arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili raises significant questions about the future of Alisson Becker. With reports suggesting that the Georgian shot-stopper is not arriving merely to warm the bench, the possibility of Alisson’s departure this summer is becoming increasingly real.
In the latest episode of Media Matters on Anfield Index, journalist David Lynch joined Dave Davis to break down the goalkeeper situation at Liverpool, touching on the very real possibility that the Brazilian number one could be playing his final season at Anfield.

Liverpool’s recruitment strategy in recent years has ensured that the club has one of the strongest goalkeeping units in world football. Alisson, Kelleher, and Jaros have formed a solid hierarchy, but with Mamardashvili set to arrive in the summer, the landscape may be shifting.
“I think it’s a live issue at the moment,” Lynch told Davis. “I think there’s a real possibility Alisson does move on.”
Last summer, Alisson was linked with a move away, particularly to Saudi Arabia. Although he remained at Liverpool, Lynch suggests that this could have simply been a case of postponing the inevitable.
“There was potential then to kind of let’s see what happens next summer,” he explained. “The Saudi interest is still there, and some top European clubs would be interested. But if he were to leave Liverpool, he maybe would go to Saudi and kind of make that money.”
From a club perspective, Liverpool would ideally keep Alisson for at least another season while integrating Mamardashvili into the squad. However, Lynch noted that the final decision ultimately rests with the player.
“I don’t think Liverpool are going to be kicking him out the door,” he said. “I think their ideal situation is maybe to go into next season with Alisson and Mamardashvili as one and two, then have that competition ongoing. And then the season after that, maybe Mamardashvili becomes first choice.”
But should Alisson push for a move, Liverpool already appear to have their replacement lined up. “If he kind of pushes for that move away, then they’ve kind of got it boxed, haven’t they?” Lynch continued. “They could turn to Mamardashvili as the number one, maybe Jaros sticks around as number two, and they’re still in a strong position.”
While Alisson remains one of Liverpool’s most important players, the club has been known to take a pragmatic approach when high-value stars express a desire to leave. His contract runs until 2027, meaning Liverpool would command a significant fee should they decide to cash in.
The key factor here is whether Alisson is tempted by a lucrative move, particularly from Saudi Arabia. “It’s all kind of on what does Alisson want?” Lynch stated. “And if that’s back on the table, then Liverpool will have to make a decision.”
If Alisson stays, Liverpool’s goalkeeping depth will be unmatched, with a seamless succession plan already in place. But if he leaves, it will mark the end of an era, one where Alisson has been instrumental in bringing trophies back to Anfield.
With Alisson’s future uncertain and Kelleher widely expected to leave, Liverpool’s goalkeeping department could undergo significant changes in the coming months. Mamardashvili’s arrival is already setting the stage for a new chapter. Whether Alisson remains part of that story is yet to be seen.
One thing is clear: Liverpool’s goalkeeping situation is one to watch closely as the summer transfer window approaches.
