Liverpool Watch Kingsley Coman as Bayern Signal Willingness to Sell

Liverpool’s interest in Coman confirmed

Liverpool are actively monitoring Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman, according to a report by journalist Christian Falk in German outlet Bild. The 28-year-old Frenchman has emerged as Bayern’s “number one sales candidate” this summer, as the club seeks to reshape its squad and generate funds.

“Liverpool are actually interested in him,” Falk confirmed. “Coman is on the shortlist. It’s not to the point where there are negotiations or offers yet, but they’re monitoring his situation, especially after he’s Bayern’s number one sales candidate. Not because they don’t appreciate him, but because they can see him bringing in money.”

Despite being contracted until 2027, Coman’s future in Munich looks uncertain. Vincent Kompany hasn’t relied on him heavily, and persistent injury concerns have limited his availability – issues Liverpool are said to be wary of.

Versatility and pace make Coman a tempting fit

Falk was clear on why Liverpool, and others, are circling: “Yes, of course that’s one of the considerations,” he said of Coman’s injury history. “But of course, with his high speed, he would fit in really well. He comes in on the left, but he can actually play all of them. So that would be interesting for the team.”

That versatility is a key point. Coman could provide competition across Liverpool’s front line, notably as an alternative or eventual successor to Luis Díaz, while also being capable of deputising on the right if needed – potentially easing the burden on Mo Salah, despite the Egyptian’s recent contract extension.

Premier League interest heating up

Coman isn’t just a Liverpool target. Arsenal and Tottenham are also believed to be interested. Florian Plettenberg reports that Arsenal may turn their attention to Coman after failing to land Leroy Sane. Spurs are similarly monitoring the situation, hoping to capitalise on Bayern’s willingness to sell.

The fee could be relatively modest given Coman’s pedigree – previous reports suggest he could be available for as little as €30m (£26m). That price point might be attractive for Liverpool, especially if the club views him as a strategic addition under new head coach Arne Slot.

Wages and injury record complicate things

However, concerns persist – and they’re valid. Coman has battled multiple muscular injuries across his career. This, combined with reportedly high wages, creates a natural hesitation. For a player who hasn’t hit consistent form in recent seasons, Liverpool’s recruitment team will need to weigh risk versus reward carefully.

Still, with Bayern reportedly prioritising his sale – and Coman himself said to be open to a move for regular playing time – the pieces may yet fall into place.

Our View – Anfield Index Analysis

For all his flair, there’s a reason Bayern are happy to cash in on Kingsley Coman. And while it’s tempting to think of him bombing down the wing at Anfield, it’s hard not to feel sceptical.

Firstly, his injury record is a red flag. We’ve been burned before by signing players with poor availability. Just ask anyone who remembers Naby Keita’s stop-start Liverpool career. Coman’s numbers are solid – 69 goals and 69 assists in 328 games – but that’s over eight years. In a league as intense as the Premier League, can he stay fit long enough to justify the investment?

Secondly, his wages are rumoured to be sky-high. If he’s expecting top-tier wages, you’d imagine Liverpool will hesitate, especially with Salah still at the club and demanding the top bracket. Coman might fit the system, but he doesn’t fit the financial profile we’ve seen under FSG – even with Slot potentially seeking a different attacking balance.

Yes, his talent is real. Yes, his Champions League-winning pedigree is attractive. But at 28, with injury doubts and salary demands, this could turn into another risky roll of the dice. If this is a genuine option, Liverpool fans have every right to be cautious.
