After many attempts, Juventus have finally struck a deal for a defender in January, as they have reached an agreement in principle with Chelsea for Renato Veiga. The two sides have concurred on a simple loan without an option or an obligation to buy, Sky reports.
The Bianconeri will shell out €4.5M to have the player for the second half of the season. The center-back eventually pushed to join them. Borussia Dortmund and Olympique Marseille were after him too.
Juventus will finalize the acquisition of Veiga in the coming days. He’ll be their third January signing after Alberto Costa and Randal Kolo Muani. The striker will finally be announced on Wednesday. PSG will solve the impasse by cutting ties with Juan Bernat, who had six months on his contract and will stay at Villarreal, Goal reports.
The Bianconeri might not be done at the position, DAZN’s Orazio Accomando relays. In the meantime, one of their early targets, Ronald Araujo, will sign a contract extension with Barcelona.
At this stage, Juventus don’t have the budget for permanent signings, but the scenario would change if they sold Andrea Cambiaso to Manchester City, Alfredo Pedullà reports. The negotiation with Newcastle United for Lloyd Kelly continues.
The formula isn’t great, and only time will tell whether the deal will be akin to Francisco Conceiçao, although there’s a future release clause in that case, or to Carlos Alcaraz, who wasn’t retained after a quiet and expensive six-month spell. A veteran wouldn’t hurt given the average age of their squad.
